Join Woodstock Land Conservancy for a special broadcast of The Sounds of the Winter Solstice, by interdisciplinary sound artist Zaneta. This piece features sounds recorded at WLC’s Israel Wittman Sanctuary in the Zena Highwoods on Winter Solstice 2024.
The hour-long piece features interviews from residents of the Zena Highwoods, the WLC Land Stewards who maintain Israel Wittman Sanctuary, and WLC’s Program Curator, Miranda Javid.
This broadcast invites listeners to slow down, attune to seasonal rhythms, and experience the living dialogue between community and landscape.
Join acclaimed vibraphonist Chris Dingman, whose work was described by The New York Times as “hypnotizing”, for a transformational sound journey in the beautifully resonant space of The Angel Nyack.
Chris plays the vibraphone - a unique and beautiful instrument - in a singular, virtuosic way using the waves and layers of sound along with his voice to bring listeners into a heightened meditative state where healing, connection, visions, and inspiration can occur. It is a dream-like experience that is at once activating, relaxing, and rejuvenating. Projected visuals enhance this sonically rich and expansive journey.
For this edition of the Dreaming Place, special guest interdisciplinary sound artist and ritualist Zaneta will be helping us build a community ancestral altar. We welcome you to bring photos and/or special items of remembrance of loved ones who have passed away, to add to the altar. Zaneta will then guide a meditation to bring us into communion with our loved ones, leading into Chris’s sound journey.
The setting for this journey is the spacious and sonically resplendent sanctuary at The Angel, a new arts & event space set in a beautiful, historic church in the heart of the charming village of Nyack - an ideal space to stretch out and be immersed.
Dream with us in this beautiful and supportive community setting. All are welcome!
Join us for Listening to Land, a field recording workshop led by local sound-artist Zaneta Sykes (they/them) at Israel Wittman Sanctuary. This immersive outdoor experience invites participants to deepen their relationship with the natural world through attentive listening and the practice of recording ambient sound. Guided by Zaneta’s expertise in eco-acoustic art and mindful soundwalking, the group will explore how sound can reveal hidden dimensions of a landscape. No prior experience is necessary.
